Multi-gang switches group controls on a shared plate, but the term “gang” can be used differently across catalogues and markets. For a reliable quotation, specify the number of controls, the function of each control and the plate format together.
Separate positions from circuit function
A one-gang device usually describes one switch position, while two- and three-gang descriptions indicate more positions on a plate. The gang count alone does not tell the supplier whether a switch is one-way, two-way, illuminated or intended for another control function. List each requirement against a model or drawing instead of relying on a short product label.
Prepare a location schedule
Map the required functions to each room or area. Note the number of positions, indicator requirements, plate style and preferred colour. This helps the supplier group the order by model and reduces ambiguity when the same series has several combinations.
Check physical fit
Request drawings for the front plate and rear assembly. Confirm fixing points, wall-box compatibility, available space and how the selected plate aligns with adjacent sockets or accessories. Review neighbouring plates as a coordinated set rather than approving each model in isolation.
Include in the enquiry
- Destination country and project type.
- Number of positions and the function required at each position.
- Any indicator or finish requirement.
- Model codes, drawings and compatible accessories.
- Packaging, labels and documents required for review.
OUBEN’s EU1, EU2, PERFECT and F9 catalogue entries include different gang configurations. Confirm combinations by item code: a colour variant or related plate does not mean every function is offered in every configuration.
